General Description:

The power booster utilized in the Burndy WEJTAP™ system is of a rim-fire design, employs a brass power cell contained within a plastic piston and encased within a nylon cartridge. The power booster contains standard black powder and gases through a pre-designed vent hole. This design is waterproof, extremely reliable and provides a unique recessed power cell for added safety.


Performance Advantages:

The automatic gas venting feature inherent to the Burndy WEJTAP™ Power Booster design is safer to operate as it prevents gases from being trapped inside the tool following connector installation. In addition, there are no extra steps required to accomplish gas venting which enhances installation time.

 The nylon cartridge employed as part of the Burndy WEJTAP™ Power Booster is color-coded, durable and resistant to cracking in cold weather operating environments.

Any serious examination of available fired-on wedge connectors should include close evaluation of misfire rates associated with particular power boosters and tooling. Misfired boosters are not only aggravating, they also increase installation costs by lengthening time required to complete the job and dramatically increase material expenditures. Misfired boosters can also pose a danger to the operator tasked with extracting an arguably "live" cartridge from an installation tool.

Misfires are so rarely experienced with the Burndy WEJTAP™ system as to not be even the slightest issue. Additionally, should a Burndy WEJTAP power booster fail to actuate (an extremely rare occurrence), because of its rim-fire design, the power booster can be rotated 45 degrees and fired as normal. Also, the plastic bushing which houses the brass power cell adds a measure of moisture resistance which further enhances reliability.


Operating Characteristics:

Hot gases are initially contained within a brass powder cell in Burndy's booster. The brass power cell utilized in the Burndy booster significantly lowers the possibility of a fracture of the nylon power booster casing.

The Burndy Power Booster design employs a unique recessed power cell which prevents contact with tool firing mechanism until properly positioned on the connector prior to installation. This patented safety feature significantly enhances operator safety by preventing accidental or inadvertent firings during installation process.

The Burndy WEJTAP™ Power Booster uses common black powder which generates an odorless, environmentally friendly gas. This standard mixture also resists moisture which enhances reliability and eliminates misfiring.

Tooling

THE WEJTAP™ TOOL is a one-piece assembly that consists of a frame and power unit. Two color-coded interchangeable framess accept all WEJTAP™ connectors and STIRRUPS ® . The design of the tool recognizes the need for simplicity and speed of operation as well as outstanding safety features such as automatic gas release vented away from the operator, fast simple breech loading and fast advance when engaging the connector assembly. No loose parts to drop or misplace and a booster ejection system that provides further safety to the operator. Fewer simplified hotline devices and handy lineman accessories complete an outstanding tool package.
