In launching the AirMax VS® connector system, FCI is giving
backplane system designers the freedom to rethink the way products
are designed.
Based on a radical design concept, AirMax VS® ( 'Virtual Shield')
connectors eliminate the need for interleaving ground shields by
using air as highly efficient dielectric.
This technical breakthrough, allows for a high level of customization,
which includes the various IMLA counts and IMLA spacings.
Features:
- Contains no interleaving shields
- Facilitates high signal density per linear board length
- Maximizes the use of air as a dielectric
- Full set of building blocks supporting standard and reversed gender,
designed for application in Hard Metric building practices
- Versatile IMLA design (Insert Molded Lead frame Assembly)
- Compliant Press Fit, 0.6 mm PTH
- Low weight
- Low insertion & extraction forces
- Range of accessories available (guide pins, power modules)
- Allows for customer signal allocation within the same connector
(e.g. single ended and/ or differential)
Benefits:
- Easy to facilitate multiple column-spacings and -counts in a module
- Supports very high speed system designs (up to 25 Gb/s demonstrated)
- Allows for lower cost per mated line
- Exhibits low insertion loss and low cross talk
- Eliminates the risk of bent pins on the back plane
- Eliminates the need to define, order and stock multiple part numbers
- Provides flexibility to systems designers
- Scalable to very high speed performance requirements
